MCS Awareness Month in Spain: Greenpeace photo contest
Posted on May 09, 2010 by Susie Collins in Blog, MCS, Susie Collins
A group of canaries in Spain enter their pics in a Greenpeace photo contest. You can help them win “Photo Report of the Week” by casting your vote!
A group of people in Spain with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity invite you to participate in a photo contest to raise awareness on the effects toxic chemicals on health. The contest, sponsored by Greenpeace Spain, is called “fotodenuncia” (photodenounce) and includes many different categories of environmental pollution.
There are two ways you can collaborate with our Spanish mates:
First, you can vote for the photos of the MCS canaries; click on the tab “Lista,” then give each of the photos of the people with MCS five stars ★★★★★! Be sure to click to page 2. You can easily see who the people are with MCS, they are wearing respirators. The group is hoping to become “Photo Report of the Week,” matching up the accomplishment with International Day of MCS, May 12.
The second way you can collaborate is by adding your own photo. Click here on “Participa!”
Bravo, Spanish Canaries!
~~~
Thanks, Ho Taru!
I sure would like to know what kind of masks they are wearing in the photos… really nice! Much nicer looking than our 3M’s most of us wear in the U.S.
Fantastic! I’ve already clicked on all our masked Spanish friends. I know quite a lot of them from Facebook & their blogspots.
)
Great masks! Hope they win…
I don’t think Greenpeace Argentina has started this campaign yet, but I suppose they’ll let me know whether it’s on. I get their notifications. Can’t send my photo to Spain!
Thanks, Ho Taru & Susie!! xoxo
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I will ask them which masks they are wearing.
Mine is very small and costs 3€, you can purchase it at Pure Nature: it’s an FII, the charcoal filter isn’t as itchy as the 3M i used to have: http://www.purenature24.com/shop/a1183/odour-mask-ffp2-with-valve.html
Sylvia if you like you can send me your pic and email and I will hang it from barcelona. I can say you live in Madrid for example
We need to make Greenpeace more involved in the Canary’s mines!!!
Love,
ho✿
Thanks for the link Ho. I appreciate you asking. It’s the respirators they are wearing that I’m interested in because they look so much nicer than the 3M’s we get in the US. Those odor masks in the link are unfortunately only nuisance level protection for a mostly safe environment, while respirators with multi-gas cartridges make the world accessible!
I actually use a 3M one, the 6200 with 6059 ABEK1 filters. It’s the best I’ve found, the lighter ones don’t do enough filtering for me I guess and the blue one that’s built all in one (you have to buy different ones because the filters can’t be replaced) didn’t exchange incoming/outcoming air quickly enough when I tried one and I would get very dizzy…
Hello everyone,. sorry i’m late i managed to find out about the respirators you were asking about. The trademark is ’3M’, the product is 4279.
Here you can buy it it’s a UK site:
http://www.sba.co.uk/product.asp?ProductID=121&CategoryID=21
But we don’t like the prize £207.23 , in Spain we believe it’s really too expensive, like 3 times more than what one of my friends here paid in a shop. So maybe you can google it a bit further , depending on where about you live…
On the other hand, thanks to everyone we managed to get Greenpeace write a post in their ‘PhotoReport’ blog, about MCS, by Sara del Rio, the person in charge of Pollution from Greenpeace Spain:
Feel free to add your comments under the post. No matter in which language, but if you please you can use google-translate: http://translate.google.com/#
