Aloha and LOL, Susie and Susan!

The pinecone predicament is not one I've often run across, although I might (rather disrespectfully, I admit) suggest that those who use them must be Coneheads....On the other hand, I'm all too familiar with those evil little "air-freshening" evergreens, swinging from the rearview mirrors of toxed taxis. My take:

(to the tune of "Carol of the Bells")

Tiny Christmas trees
Reek like Fabreze
All seem to spray
Poisons your way

Wary, wary, wary, wary Christmas!

*****

(Honestly, I *do* write in genres other than song parodies!)

She forgot about those "pine-fragrance-laced" "scented pinecones" in so many of the stores. I think they put them by the front door because even the employees can't stand them. But I can't get past that point. It's THEIR loss. I lived in the mountain and pinecones themselves don't really smell. In the Ponderosas and Lodgepoles, the wonderful Natural fragrances came from the needles, bark and sap, especially after a good rain. Pinecones don't smell anything like evergreen-shaped car "air fresheners" or Christmas "scented pine cones!" If you want fresh Natural odors I suggest a balsam pillow from the northeast U.S., or cedar chips from southern missouri (red cedars). Of course, some of us have noses that are so overly-sensitive most of the time we can't even tolerate these. Alas! - S. (BTW-Wonderful poem!) P.S. "Ya wanna buy a pinecone? Pinecones for sale. Untainted!" That would be an ad! That'll be the day!
