Dear Maija, I also suffer CFS/ME severe and the Spanish government doesn’t recognize it either. 3 illnesses are mistreated and patients are abandoned. Here is easier to get the disability for a psychiatric illness too.

Thanks a lot Jasmine for your kind words and your support! Susie and you have made me blush with your sweet comments. Big hugs my friend!

I don't have MCS, but I do have CFS/ME, and as such the situation feels very familiar to me. Even though the WHO has recognized CFS/ME as a neurological illness for 40 years, the Finnish government still does not recognize it at all. It just does not exist here.

Even if you're bedbound and paralyzed, you can not get disability benefits (or even a sick leave), because CFS/ME doesn't exist. I've been on a sick leave for years and never received a penny. Of course that breaks several laws, including the constitution, but the ability of a seriously ill person to sue is limited - and they know that.

I have to admit I haven't previously fully understood the reasons why MCS has been labeled a psychiatric illness. I have simply assumed it's for the same reasons it has been done to illnesses like CFS/ME and FM: to reduce public fear and to make sure the society doesn't have to pay disability benefits (ironically in Finland it's much easier to get on disability for a psychiatric illness than a non-psychiatric one!).

Eva did an incredible job on this interview and we are darned lucky to have her speaking out on behalf of people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. She's informed, spot-on with her information, and delivers it well. Big hugs and gratitude for Eva!
