Spanish blogger screams from the silence

Blogger Eva Caballé on the plight of people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity: “It’s necessary that someone gives us a chance to leave this silence where they force us to live.”

In June, I shared with you the incredible photos of Spanish blogger Eva Caballé, who has Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and posed for the online magazine Delirio. Delirio’s editors had asked Eva to collaborate in that edition called “The Naked,” and she thought it was a great opportunity to show what it’s like living with MCS. Her husband did the photography, and she wrote an essay to accompany the photos, denouncing the situation in Spain for people with MCS. That essay has now been translated into nine languages by MCS bloggers throughout the world.

Well, Eva is at it again with another photo and essay in Delirio, this time for the edition on “Silence.” And here is Eva’s photo and essay on MCS, Screaming from the Silence:

SCREAMING FROM THE SILENCE

When you don’t like something, when something bothers you, if there is something that remembers your mistakes, it’s easy not to deal with it, let it for another day, put it in a corner, wrapped by a thick silence. This happens to Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) sufferers. They want us that way, in silence, in order not to annoy, in order not to alert, so nobody realizes that the precipice it’s every day a little bit closer and we all will fall: we, our children, our grandchildren…

We feed international economy with our health, our future and the future of those who haven’t even born. It is the same society who lets us get sick, exposing us gratuitously to toxic products, then it abandons us to our fate and silences us to no one knows the truth.

Wherever can we break this spiral? It’s necessary that someone gives us a chance to leave this silence where they force us to live.

Delirio opened me a door whereby scream, with all my forces, that we are here, that we have MCS because the present way of living is getting us sick. It opened me a door whereby scream that they are not going to silence us and above all, that this is only the beginning and it’s necessary to act right now.

Delirio helped us to break the silence publishing “The Naked Truth about MCS” in the edition dedicated to nude. Delirio undressed me, both inside and out, in order to denounce our hard reality.

Unexpectedly this article has gotten so far that has been translated and published in 9 different languages, and has been published in several countries all around the world. And some of these countries have included forewords explaining their own situation, like Germany or Norway.

The one that was initially my shout from the silence, has turned into the patients’ unanimous shout of the whole world denouncing that the MCS exists, that we are left, but that nobody will manage to silence us.

    Thanks Susie! I’m so happy for being again at The Canary Report! I will never forget that all began thanks to your interest in my nude photos and today I’m announcing that I’ve written a MCS book. No one would ever publish me a book if my first article hadn’t had so much success.

    I’m SO pleased that The Canary Report has joined up with Eva to collaborate on MCS issues! And congratulations, Eva, on your book.

    I shall be adding Eva’s link to my own blogspot. Although it’s a poetry blog, it so happens that I write a lot of protest poetry about our environment, exploitation, deforestation, discrimnation, etc. in Argentine Patagonia. Therefore I always include links to MCS blogspots, because events such as duststorms, sandstorms and other natural catastrophes are closely related to our health. I recently read that duststorms can carry bacteria & viruses miles & miles away, to countries all over the world! Plus all sorts of rubbish, not to mention the damage to MCS sufferers, who breathe the dirty air.
    Susie, I included my Canary badge in my blogspot, left column! Today I shall check on my links and add the one’s I’ve forgotten.
    Eva, you’re a fantastic person! The idea of the naked photos for Delirio is super!

    Quando qualcosa non piace, qualcosa dà fastidio, quando una cosa vi ricorda i vostri errori, è più facile non affrontarla e lasciarla per un po’nascosta, avvolta in una cortina di silenzio. In questo modo siamo trattati noi malati di Sensibilità Chimica Multipla (MCS). Così vogliono che noi restiamo in silenzio, per non creare preoccupazione, per non creare allarme, in modo che nessuno noterà il baratro che si avvicina sempre più e dentro il quale stiamo per cadere tutti: noi, i nostri figli, i nostri nipoti …

    Noi alimentiamo vita l’economia mondiale con la nostra salute, il nostro futuro ed il futuro di altri che non sono ancora nati. La stessa società che ci fa ammalare, ci espone gratuitamente alle sostanze tossiche, ci abbandona alla nostra sorte e ci zittisce in modo non si sappia la verità.

    Come si può rompere questa spirale? È necessario che qualcuno ci dia la possibilità di uscire dal silenzio in cui siamo costretti a vivere.

    “Delirio” mi ha aperto una finestra attraverso la quale gridare, con tutte le mie forze, che siamo qui, che siamo malati di MCS perché il modo in cui viviamo oggi si sta ammalando, che non devono tapparci la bocca per non farci parlare e, soprattutto, che questo è solo l’inizio ed è necessario agire subito.

    Delirio ci ha aiutato a rompere il silenzio, pubblicando “Nasciamo nudi” nel suo numero dedicato al nudo. “Delirio” mi ha spogliato, dentro e fuori, per esporre la nostra dura realtà.

    Inaspettatamente, questo articolo è andato così lontano che è stato tradotto e pubblicato in 9 lingue e pubblicato in diversi paesi in tutto il mondo, anche con un prologo sulla situazione particolare di alcuni paesi, come la Germania o la Norvegia.

    On a related topic: did you see in the bottom right column on the page that there is now a widget to translate the site? I don’t know how well it works, but supposedly it will help you read the entire website in other languages. I hope it works well enough to make that possible.

    going to edit each translation as a Delirio’s annex and if you want we can
