Cat litter with the odor absorbing power of natural green tea.
I’m trying out new cat litters and thought I’d let you know how things are going.
A couple of weeks ago I told you about The World’s Best Cat Litter, made from corn, which I’ve heard other people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity say was a good choice. I couldn’t find it here, but did find this litter made from green tea leaves! I’ve been using it now for two weeks and it’s FANTASTIC! There’s nothing but the sweet smell of tea leaves, even after two weeks of use. I can’t even tell if there’s any poop or pee in the box! The catechin, a tannin and natural astringent found in green tea leaves, eliminates the odor without any use of chemicals.
The downside is that it’s expensive: $18 a bag here. But I do believe that one bag is going to last four weeks, as advertised.
It’s made in Japan, and contains mostly green tea leaves with some industrial wood byproducts. I was a little worried about the wood byproducts, but I can detect no chemicals at all, and in fact found a moth fluttering around in the box today.
It’s very low dust, super easy to scoop out. The instructions on the bag are ambiguous about disposal, saying that the product is safe to flush, and then saying flushing is not beneficial to overall water quality so please do not flush. Although it’s true that it’s not environmentally safe to flush any cat litter down a public sewer system, we have a cesspool, so I’ve been flushing it.
I’m very happy with this litter! Wish I’d found it years ago.
I have two other litters that I’ll be reviewing as I use them: one made from pine and one a barn animal bedding material made from wood by-products that can also be used as a cat litter.
