A race car driver’s journey to become carbon neutral

What happens when a biology graduate turned race car driver and environmental activist speeds her way into NASCAR and now the Indy Pro Series? This is the story of a treehugging, recycling, composting, vegetarian hippie chick race car driver’s journey to become carbon neutral.

Stephen Colbert may have a falcon, a sea turtle, an elephant seal, a spider and an ice cream named after him, but race car driver and environmental activist Leilani Münter has beat him to the punch in the world of alternative energy.

Among 432 wind turbines in the largest wind farm in the world, NextEra Energy’s wind turbine #133 outside of Abilene, Texas bears the mark of Carbon Free Girl Leilani Münter.

After climbing 252 feet to the hub of the turbine, Leilani was incredibly honored to sign one of the giant blades – which is the length of a basketball court – and make it her own.

Not a Nascar fan myself, but if her voice (and let’s face it, her knockout looks) can help spread green ideas to the hundreds of thousands of race car fans then more power to her!
